Roadworks Steamroller Printing Festival Photos

by Conn on October 10, 2013

A couple weekends ago the SF Center for the Book put on their 10th annual Roadworks Steamroller Printing Festival. In addition to a bunch of local printers and designers coming out to sell their cards, prints, and printing services there were giant 3′ x 3′ prints being made:

Using a three-ton construction steamroller and an unlikely letterpress bed –┬áRhode Island Street – a team of artists and printers print large-scale prints from three-foot-square hand-carved linoleum blocks. Now in its 10th year, Roadworks has become a casual, popular tradition in the Potrero Hill neighborhood, drawing printmaking and book art enthusiasts as well as locals and families.

It was a great afternoon and we had a table at the event which gave us a chance to meet a lot of the local printers in person. There’s a lot of interesting work being done out there by a lot of independent shops. Below are a few photos we shot from the event.
